How Much Does CHAS Cost? What Affects the Price

There isn't one price for CHAS. What you pay depends on the membership level you need, how many people work for you and whether you're joining or renewing. This guide explains what affects the cost, so you can work out what to budget for before you get a quote.

Who it's for

Businesses budgeting for a first CHAS application or a renewal.

What affects what you pay

Your membership level

Standard, Advanced and Elite each cover more assessment areas, and the price rises with the level. The level you need is usually set by the client or tender asking for it, so check their requirements before choosing.

How many people work for you

CHAS prices by employee numbers in bands rather than per person. That means a small increase in headcount can move you into a higher band. If you're close to a band edge, check before you renew.

Joining or renewing

New members pay a joining fee on top of the membership fee. Renewal prices can differ from your first year.

VAT

CHAS prices are quoted excluding VAT.

Optional extras

CHAS offers paid extras such as fast-track assessment with dedicated support. These are optional.

The hidden cost: getting your documents right

The membership fee is only part of the cost. The bigger cost for most businesses is time: preparing policies, gathering evidence and answering assessor queries. A failed or delayed assessment means more time, and sometimes lost work while you wait.

Frequently asked questions

Is CHAS a one-off cost?

No. Membership is annual and needs renewing each year.

Why did my renewal cost more than last year?

Common reasons are moving into a higher employee band, changing membership level or price changes. Check your details on your CHAS account.

Can I get CHAS for free?

No. CHAS membership is paid. Some free resources, including ours, can help you prepare.

Which level should I choose?

Usually the one your client or tender asks for. Choosing a higher level than needed costs more without benefit.
