Build UK will publish Version 6 of the Common Assessment Standard on 1 November 2026. If you hold CHAS Elite or another Common Assessment Standard certificate, or you're applying, here's what's confirmed so far and what to do now. We'll update this page when Version 6 is published.

Businesses that hold or are applying for the Common Assessment Standard, including through CHAS Elite.

Last checked: 14 October 2026

Where things stand now

  • Version 5 of the question set, dated 1 July 2025, is the current version.
  • Build UK has said Version 6 will be published on 1 November 2026.
  • If you're applying or renewing before then, prepare against Version 5.

What Build UK has confirmed

Based on Build UK's statement on the Building Safety section, dated 23 July 2026:

  • Competence questions move from the Building Safety section to the Quality section, so all suppliers will complete them, not just those with Building Safety dutyholder roles.
  • Scaffolding and temporary works suppliers will no longer need to complete the Building Safety section unless they carry out building work.
  • Until Version 6 is published, scaffolding and temporary works suppliers going through certification must still answer the competence questions (questions 135, 136 and 138), even if they skip the other dutyholder questions.

What to do now

  • If your certificate renews soon, prepare against Version 5 as normal.
  • Make sure you can show competence evidence for your key people: qualifications, training records and experience. Under Version 6, every supplier will be asked about it.
  • If you're a scaffolding or temporary works supplier, check whether any of your work counts as building work.
  • Keep your time-critical documents, such as insurance and certificates, up to date.
