An editable three-part health and safety policy covering intent, named responsibilities and how the business manages its day-to-day risks.

Who it's for
Small businesses putting their health and safety responsibilities and arrangements into a usable written policy.
How to complete it
- Write a statement of intent that matches the business and have it signed and dated by the most senior person.
- Assign overall and day-to-day responsibility, and name people for first aid, fire, accidents, training and equipment checks.
- Complete the How we do it and Who columns for each arrangement, describing what really happens.
- Explain the policy to workers and keep it accessible.
- Review it at least annually and when the business, work or risks change.
Employers with five or more people must have a written health and safety policy. Smaller businesses are not legally required to write one down, but schemes such as CHAS ask how safety is managed. A short, accurate policy makes the arrangements easier to demonstrate.
